Happy Nurses Week!

For the past two weeks, The College Network has been running a contest asking nurses for the story related to why they became a nurse. So far, 95 amazing people have posted their story on our blog! Reading these stories reminded me a few special nurses in my life.

Last year, my mom made the decision to donate her kidney to a next-door neighbor and friend in need. While this was not a tough decision for her (she was positive that her kidney would be a perfect match from day one), it was a life-changing one.

Throughout the entire process, from testing to surgery and follow-up, the nurses we encountered were wonderful, caring people. One special woman even came back on her day off to see my mother discharged and to personally thank her for the sacrifice she made for someone else.

As a nurse, you touch the lives of so many people, and you make a difference every day. Thank you to the wonderful nurses at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky who helped my mom through one of the biggest decisions of her life - AND thank you to every man or woman who has committed his or her life to nursing.

Happy Nurses Week!
