Employee Advances His Career with Paralegal Certificate

Gary Holmes was already working in the field of law when he decided to further his career. “I worked in a courthouse and wanted to pursue a paralegal certificate to go with the education that I’d already obtained,” he said. “I researched many online schools as well as local schools. Boston University seemed to be the most reputable, and The College Network took care of all the particulars in getting me signed up.”

Still, Gary had concerns outside of school that required his attention. “I had ill relatives that needed looking after, not to mention the fact that I have diabetes myself. So I needed to make sure to take care of myself too,” Gary said. “At the same time I was very busy at work.”

Gary pushed through and doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. “I am always continuing my education in hopes that it will be a stepping stone to whatever God has planned for me.”

Gary completed his paralegal certificate in less than 18 months. When asked how his experience has changed his life, Gary responded, “I’m pleased that I accomplished my goal in such a short period,” he said. “Professionally, I am still waiting for a major change, but I’m pursuing many options out there.” Since earning his certificate, however, Gary has been promoted to assistant manager of his office.

The advice Gary offers to those just starting out is very valuable: “In five years, will you look back and say ‘I should have gone for that degree’ or will you already have it? Go for it!” he says. “Best wishes to all who are pursing an education and those that help them in life.”
