How "We Care" About Customers

Monday, October 15, 2012 by Ein Peck

As a Program Advisor I get to speak with many people on a daily basis who are interested in finding out how they can accomplish their goals.

Goals, of course, vary from person to person. Some are interested in becoming more specialized in their current career such as an LPN who wants to be able to teach nursing by getting an MSN. Other times, it could be someone who has always wanted to get into the legal field and would like to learn how a certificate in Paralegal Studies could help them transition from one industry to the next.

No matter what your goals, you'll always hear two simple phrases from me: "Why are you interested in this particular field?" and "What are your goals for when you receive this education?"

To me, these are two of the most important things a person can know. Sure, everyone wants to make more money--but money can't be the only reason you want to do something.

When I ask these questions, I do it to find out what you are really passionate about. Do you want to teach nursing education because you had a great teacher and wanted to be able to give back in the same way? Are you getting into the legal field because you had a great experience in the past with a lawyer who helped you to solve a problem?

At The College Network, we really do care about our customers. We want to know how we can best help you to achieve your goals. In order for us to do this, we need to know a little bit about you. If you are just going for the money, you're probably not going to have near the drive that is needed to push yourself through a program as someone who is more passionate about their new opportunities.

So if you haven't already, take a moment to ask yourself two questions: "Why am I really doing this?" and "What are my career goals?" If you can answer these questions with answers that you are proud of, nothing can stop you.

Be passionate about what you want and you will soon find that your goals will arrive much faster.

How Do You Find Inspiration?

Friday, June 8, 2012 by Tracia Fernkas

I need inspiration. I find myself pondering over and over--"what should I write my blog about?" So, my inspiration for my blog is just that--finding inspiration.

Oftentimes adults who are pursuing their online degrees, need some inspiration to study and move forward in their programs.  Inspiration is a hard thing.  It tends to sometimes be fleeting. But, when it is with you, you find that you have an energy and focus that is hard to deny.

So, let's talk about some ways you can find inspiration.  For me, I look at blogs that I have written, articles on the internet and think about the experiences of the past week.  Maybe I can help you find some inspiration by connecting you with others who have also completed online degree programs or certificates.

First of all, meet Reme Prusynski, who was in the business world for 30 years before she decided to go back to school to become the nurse she had always wanted to be but had never thought she could.  Or Jean Brennan, who decided to become a registered nurse because of 9/11. Karen Renick had been laid off, and it was then she decided start a paralegal studies program in hopes of securing a new position.  She went on to start her own paralegal business.

Feeling inspired yet? If not, and you need more--just check out other success stories to find someone who is like you.  And when you're ready, call The College Network at 800-395-1014 and we'll help turn your inspiration into a reality.

Spring Into Action

Sunday, March 25, 2012 by Kevin Burton

Spring is in the airThe weather is starting to get warmer, and trees and flowers are starting to bloom.  The winter season has come to an end, and spring time is here for 2012.  When spring is in the air, I think of March Madness, Spring Break, rain, and flowers blooming.  What comes to your mind when you hear "Spring?"

BOING!Something else I think of is getting outside and being active.  Once the weather starts to warm, increasing your activities seems to come hand-in-hand.  Physical activities, being outdoors and exercise are great, but what about your mind - learning, knowledge and your education?  Spring is a great time to also start working on furthering your education.  With the rebirth of the plants, you can reawaken your thirst for knowledge in going for one of The College Network's online distance nursing programs or online certificate programs in Lean Six Sigma, Project Management, or Paralegal studies.

"Spring" into action this season - we can help, just give us a call!

Woman Accomplishes Long Term Goal

Wednesday, November 9, 2011 by TCN Success
Rochelle Dukes had thought about becoming a paralegal for years, but kept putting it off until her employer pushed her to move forward with the idea. Rochelle chose to earn her Paralegal Certificate from Boston University with help from The College Network™ based on research she had done and recommendations from two of her co-workers who went through the program.

“I was nervous at first because even though I have been in the legal field working as a paralegal without the certificate, there is a big difference between book knowledge and hands on knowledge. It was many years since I had to actually sit down and study, but once the nerves settled down, all was great,” Rochelle said.

“I cannot think of anything that I didn’t like about the program. I felt the instructors were great—always there to help. I never had a problem with the website. The instructions were very well written for those that took the time to do the work,” Rochelle commented.

Rochelle feels that completing the Paralegal Certificate program is one of the best things she has done for herself. Read more of her inspiring story here, or cal 1-866-249-2131 to find out how you can get signed up today.

Earn Your Degree from Anywhere

Friday, October 7, 2011 by Melissa Gardiner
globalLast week I had the pleasure of writing a success story about a customer who lives in Canada and used the help of The College Network to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Writing this woman's story reminded me of a gentleman I also spoke with a few months back who was enrolled in The College Network's Paralegal Studies Certificate program. He was from Germany.

The woman who lives in Canada was a nurse global in the United States when she decided to immigrate to Canada-her husband is Canadian and owns a business there. Because of the accessibility of our online nursing programs she was able to begin her degree in the U.S. and continue completing it once she moved to Canada.

The man from Germany was studying law and wanted to accompany his degree with paralegal knowledge. There were no programs that offered what he wanted where he lives in Germany, but Boston University's online Paralegal Certificate program was perfect for his needs, and The College Network was able to help.

That's the beauty of online education-it's global. Anyone can earn a degree from anywhere they have access to the Internet. Nowadays, finding an Internet connection is pretty easy. Coffee shops, restaurants, gas stations, retail stores and many others are offering free wi-fi. Also, most libraries have computer labs which are set up for Internet connection.

When I was in college, I went to a school that was four hours from my home. So, every summer I would have to pack up all of my things and move back home for three months. I wanted to continue taking classes during summer vacation (so I could stay on track to graduate in four years) so I had to enroll, each summer, in the local college near my home. I'm glad I took the summer classes, but let me tell you it was a big hassle!

I would have loved to have the opportunity to take my classes online, on my own time, from anywhere I chose to. Online education really does make life more simplified. Whether you are living here in the U.S., are global, or are thinking of immigrating to another country, The College Network is here to help you achieve your education goals. "To change your life: Start immediately, do it flamboyantly, no exceptions."

Tuesday, September 27, 2011 by Tracia Fernkas
Goals

I was stopped in my tracks this morning by the following quote:  “To change your life:  Start immediately, do it flamboyantly, no exceptions.” Talk about instant inspiration!

I am close to a birthday, and for me, every year at this time I reflect upon the year that has passed.  I don’t really make New Year’s resolutions—more like birthday resolutions.  What have I learned in the past year?  Yes, I am getting older, but am I also getting better—growing as a person and pushing myself towards my life’s goals.

In looking back, I experienced a tough year.  One that was filled with change—some good and some bad, new experiences and one that reinforced the fact that I am the only person that can change my life.  I make the decision to move forward, only me.

Take the above mentioned quote to heart, if it resonates with you as it did with me.  Remember that you, certainly, are the only person that is going to commit to study, to be prepared for your exams, to move through your online program.

The College Network cannot push you to move forward to earn your degree.  We can offer you a means to get there, with support and the experience that comes from helping thousands of people earn their Associate of Science in Nursing degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Lean Six Sigma Certification or Paralegal Certification.  Change your life—and remember—no exceptions!

Paralegal Forecast: Sunny

Saturday, September 3, 2011 by Kevin Burton
Sunny DaysIn this economy, the job outlook in many fields is often uncertain and volatile.  In weather terms, this can mean some fields are in for a cold front, windy days, pop-up storms, blizzards, heat waves, and other unpredictable weather occurrences.  But for those looking into the paralegal or legal assistant field there is good news: your forecast is sunny skies!

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics website (click here), through 2018 there is a projected growth of 28% within the paralegal and legal assistant field.  That's a projection of over 74,000 new jobs between 2008-2018!

The College Network can help you break into the paralegal field through the Online Paralegal Studies Program from Boston University.  This certificate program is designed to give you the immediate knowledge and credential you need to walk into any paralegal/legal assistant role and do the work right away.  Throw in the fact that it is completely online, asynchronous with no mandatory login times, and done over a 14 week period - and it has never been more convenient for the working adult to pursue a career enhancement or career change!

TCN Perspectives: Burt Rosenthal

Thursday, August 25, 2011 by Charles Fox

Burt RosenthalThis post is the first in what will be an occasional, ongoing series entitled TCN Perspectives that will show our readers a few of the names, faces and stories that comprise The College Network.  After all, our people are our best asset and what truly gives our company its strength, and TCN Perspectives will showcase the people who comprise The College Network and give them a chance to tell us a bit about who they are and what they do.  First up is Burt Rosenthal, from the in house Program Advisor team.

"I was in the radio business in Detroit prior to my family moving to Indiana. I grew up in the Detroit area and became a 'Motor City' guy very quickly. I’m still a huge fan of the Red Wings and the Tigers and follow them religiously. I graduated from Wayne State University with an education/teaching degree and got into the radio business shortly afterward.

I was married in 1981 and celebrated 30 years with my wife, Ann, on the 23rd of August. We have two grown sons, Eric and Mike, 27 and 25, who are both working and very productive people in the business world. We have a wonderful 6-year-old granddaughter named McKenna who is a pure delight in our lives.

I started in Seminar Sales and for 3 and half years, traveled all over the country conducting seminars for nursing students. It was an interesting job, helping a wealth of people. This company offers a lot of educational options, including Certificates in Paralegal Studies, Project Management, Lean Six Sigma Certificate programs with Purdue University and Nursing programs from associates degrees up to master’s programs online all over the country.  These programs are designed to allow working adults the opportunity to further their education while still working full time and caring for their families. These programs are fully accredited and available almost everywhere in the country with 24 hour, 7 day a week access. The convenience factor is essential in making this a wonderful way to enhance a person’s career and choices in life, along with job security and personal satisfaction.

I enjoy helping people, and I truly enjoy the opportunity to be involved with one of the finest quality companies I’ve had the pleasure to work for in my lifetime. The people here are also a wonderful reason I come to work each day. I enjoy interacting with everyone here and truly enjoy being a part of The College Network.

I recall a seminar I conducted, I believe somewhere in Pennsylvania, where an older LPN came up to me after she had enrolled and asked if she could hug me. I said okay, but why, and she said she was not sure what direction she was going in and she received a postcard, reminding her that this seminar was tonight. She said it was like a message from above, and that she was directed to do this with our company.  As you might imagine, it was a very touching moment, and I told her how much I appreciated her and congratulated her once again for moving forward with her education.

As a member of the house team, I pride myself on being a professional consultant for The College Network, and I believe I’m once again blessed to work with the best group of professional sales consultants I’ve ever been associated with in my extensive career.

In closing, we’re happy to be in Indy, it’s a great place to raise a family and earn a living. The people are very gracious and I’ve been fortunate enough to forge a few good friendships and had a pretty happy life. I love the Colts and I’m looking forward to a championship season this year, culminating with the Colts winning the Superbowl in their hometown!!!"

Are you the next Erin Brockovich?

Thursday, August 11, 2011 by Tracia Fernkas
Law bookWe talk a lot about the growing healthcare industry.  Nurses are and will continue to be in high demand.  Did you also know that demand for paralegals is growing?  By the year 2018, the projected growth in this field will be 28%. (Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Now, here is something else to consider.  A paralegal is paid approximately 18% more than a legal secretary, depending on where your job market is located. (Source: Salary.com)
The College Network™ partners with Boston University’s Center for Professional Education to offer an Online Paralegal Studies certificate program.  During the 14-week program, you will explore real-life cases, and delve into research, reasoning, technology, corporate law, litigation, real estate and probate.  This is a comprehensive course that will provide you with the tools to be a proficient paralegal.
Those are the cold, hard facts that I can give you on why you should move forward and get your paralegal certificate.  But when I think of a paralegal—I think of Erin Brockovich and how she persevered to change people’s lives with her work.  It sounds like a noble and fulfilling career.
"If you follow your heart, if you listen to your gut, and if you extend your hand to help another, not for any agenda, but for the sake of humanity, you are going to find the truth."

Woman embraces opportunity to be an adult learner

Thursday, July 28, 2011 by TCN Success
“Everyone I talked to was so courteous and helpful that it made my experience seamless.  It was so easy to call and send and answer e-mails with all who were involved. It was a pleasure,” Carole said of her interaction with The College Network staff.

When asked what she liked most about the Paralegal Certificate program from Boston University, Carole’s response was “The ease of accessibility and the instructors and advisors were so accommodating.”

Carole says the program was challenging, but she embraced the opportunity because it was very fulfilling to be an adult learner. “I devoted time to study at the same time each night and did my class work and system searches after work and during my lunch breaks,” she said. “I loved the challenge of these courses and am happy that I succeeded with this goal.”

March Madness

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 by Kevin Burton

The BracketBuzzer beaters, upsets, and Hoosier Hysteria.  In Indiana, we take March very seriously with the state high school and NCAA college basketball tournaments.  As much fun as doing your office pools (legal ones, of course) and filling out your brackets are, March Madness can teach us how being in the field of 68 (not a typo - there are now 68 teams in the NCAA tournament) is similar to getting your education at The College Network.

March Madness would be nothing without the teams in the tournament.  To be invited into the tournament, one must have their name called on Selection Sunday.  When being selected, its all about the resume.  Teams are judged on who they played, who they beat, where they beat them, and when they beat them.  The same can be said in your own life, with your own resume.  How do you think your resume would look with a certificate in Lean Six Sigma from Purdue University (not a bad basketball school either)?  Would a potential or current employer like what they see with a Paralegal Studies Certificate from Boston University?  How much better are your chances to advance your career and in the 'tournament' with your Associates or Bachelors of Science in Nursing rather than an LPN/LVN certification?
Basketball
If you want to make the tournament, you have to have the resume.  Will you be confident on Selection Sunday, or are you on the bubble?  If you are on the bubble, The College Network can help!

If you have any questions about any program at The College Network, please contact me, Kevin Burton, via email at kburton@collegenetwork.com or phone at 317-569-4734.

Hokey Pokey

Thursday, September 23, 2010 by Kevin Burton
"You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out,
You put your right foot in and you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!"

Silly as it may be, the hokey-pokey song and dance can teach us about how furthering your education can help your career and life.  Let's examine how you can take this song to heart and accompany it with education from The College Network and turn yourself around!

"You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out."   Many students I work with everyday are looking to improve their current situation.  Some by necessity, some by choice, have taken their right foot out (of the door) and are unemployed or underemployed and are looking to get their foot in (the door) once again.

"You put your right foot in, and you shake it all about."   What can you do to put your right foot in the door again?  Continue and update your education.  Obtaining your Paralegal Studies Certificate from Boston University, PMP Preparation Courses from Boston University Corporate Education Center or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University are great ways to help get your foot back in (the door) again.  Once you get your foot in (the door), its up to you to shake it all about - show off your worth, previous skills and experience, and your newly updated resume with The College Network education!

"You do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around."   Now that you've got your swagger back, and you've got your foot in (the door) and you've shaken it all about - it's time to work hard and have fun in your newly found job or career (or even putting your new skills to work in your current job).  Do the hokey-pokey, and you truly can turn yourself around!

Continuing your education from The College Network - "That's what it's all about!"

Thinking about the future

Tuesday, September 21, 2010 by Stanley Dixon
I have been lucky to keep in contact with many of my friends since childhood. Though as adults we are unable to spend much time together these days.

I recently was at a party for a deceased friend. Even though it was a sad event, I was happy to see so many people I have not seen in years. Many of them were thinking about their future, and future careers, in particular. Surprisingly, many of them were still getting their education. We are in our mid-30s now, and most of us have had some sort of career already. It really made me look at the validity of The College Network. So many of them were struggling to get their education while having to work to pay the bills.

I am not a Program Advisor, but I've heard from them that, "our programs sell themselves." They were right. Hearing the hurdles my friends were facing, I told them of The College Network and how we help students save money and time.

Some of my friends were LPNs and realized that earning a RN, BSN, or MSN was much more important than they had originally thought. I was surprised that I was able to give them so much information about our LPN to RN, RN to MSN, and RN to BSN degree programs which were unbeknownst to them.

I had other friends who were studying for Paralegal Certification. I shared information about our programs with them as well. They had very positive feedback on the information I presented. (And, like I said, I'm not even a Program Advisor.)

Project Management, and the Six Sigma certifications were other courses I discussed with friends. The College Network has something for just about everyone.

It seems that now, almost all of my friends are taking a serious look at their future. Education is a big part of that. It is great to be able to help them by offering them an alternative to a campus- based college.

3 Questions!

Friday, August 20, 2010 by Lawrence Bowlin
My job title is Program Advisor.  My job at The College Network is to advise individuals looking to further their career growth and development with online programs from some of the top universities around the country.  Part of my job as an advisor is to ask basic questions, such as....

1)  What made you inquire into this program?
2)  What are you trying to accomplish?
3)  What obstacles can keep you from your goal?

The answers are pretty universal, no matter what walk of life a person comes from.  "I am looking to enhance my skills and job security with a certificate of Project Management." "I just lost my job, and need to obtain my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for a better position with a new company."  "I read that Paralegals are in high demand, so I'm looking to better my life with a new career as a Paralegal."

Yep, the answers are pretty universal, but none more universal than the answers I get to question 3.  What obstacles can keep you from you goal? The answers are; fear, money, time.  That is it.  Those three little things carry a lot of power.  But it's power we give them, so it's power we can take away.  How?  Easy.

For fear, my answer is simple.  What is worse, not knowing what you want or knowing what you want, but being afraid to go after it?

Amanda worked in a fast food restaurant for years living paycheck to paycheck, supporting two kids on her own.  She always liked the idea of working as a Paralegal, but didn't know how to go after it.  She was afraid.  I explained to her what a Paralegal Certificate from Boston University could do for her in 14 weeks! She was excited, fear fading.  She said, "Lawrence that sounds perfect for me, but I still have to work to take care of my kids, bills and pay for the program."  I told her, "you can work on the courses anytime day or night, 24/7 and take advantage of our 18 month payment plan."  Fear and money worries gone.  Time.... Amanda put in 14 weeks, loved the program and now has a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Boston University.

Are you ready to finally go after your dream and obtain that training in Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, Paralegal, or Human Resources.  Call me and I'll show you that fear, money and time have no real power to keep you from your goals.

The Path to Becoming a Paralegal: Paralegal Career Training

Saturday, July 3, 2010 by The College Network Web Team
Paralegal Certification through the College NetworkIt is anticipated that the paralegal field will have a rapid employment growth in the next few years. Despite these projections, paralegal jobs are expected to be highly competitive. Individuals with formal training and prior experience will fare the best.

71% of paralegals work in law firms. However, all types of organizations employ paralegals. Within these organizations, paralegals work in various areas of law, such as litigation, criminal law and real estate. While some legal employers provide on the job trading for specialized areas of law, most paralegals enter the field with formal paralegal career training.

There are several ways one can become a paralegal outside of on the job training. Most paralegals attend a community college paralegal program that offers an associate’s degree. The other common avenue to becoming a paralegal is earning a certificate in paralegal studies along with a bachelor degree.

Formal paralegal training programs are offered at over 1,000 colleges, universities and private institutions. While you may receive paralegal training in associate’s and bachelor's degree programs, such programs generally combine paralegal training with other academic subjects. Certificate programs, on the other hand, offer intensive paralegal training for individuals who already hold a degree of some sort. Paralegal certificate programs usually take only a few months to complete.

So Many People, One Common Theme (seeing the light)

Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Jordan Whitt

In my job as a Program Advisor for The College Network, I speak with literally hundreds of people a month who are interested in enhancing their education.  Although the majority of the people that I speak with are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) interested in getting a nursing degree in route to their RN license, I regularly speak with people looking for educational options in Project Management, Paralegal Studies, and many other fields

On first glance, there aren't many obvious similarities between all the people that I speak with.  They live in different states, they come from different backgrounds, and have completely different career goals and aspirations.... But, underneath the surface, a common bond is found... each one knows that enhancing their education is the surest way to:

a higher salary,
greater job security,

and an incredible sense of accomplisment.

What's sometimes surprising to me is that even though people are fully aware of how incredibly beneficial education is, some seem to find "every excuse in the book" not to move forward.  However, despite whatever obstacle is facing them, be it unemployment, raising a family on a single income, working multiple jobs, ect.., some people just absolutely refuse to let anything stand in their way.

In fact, you can read for yourself about the challenging circumstances that some of our students were able to overcome in route to achieving their educational goals:

Tracy a single mother of three who earned her RN licnese

If you are one of those people who knows that education is what you need, but are feeling discouraged by obstacles that you are facing, I implore you to call/email/or comment on this blog.  For the past two decades, we have been helping people just like you overcome these same obstacles and we have helped thousands of people "see the light" and accomplish what they previously thought impossible...

Let us do the same for you.
