Alternative for Programs for Nurses in Georgia

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 by Reggie Theodore

Did you read today’s article in the Times-Herald on the increasing nursing shortage in the state of Georgia?

In this article, Dr. Grams, the Dean of the University of West Georgia, is predicting that there will be a shortage of nurses in Georgia that equals 20 percent by 2015, and that number could be as high as 260,000 nurses by the year 2025.

The shortages in nursing are due in part to our aging population, not enough quality nursing instructors and the limited amount of space to accommodate nursing applicant. Dr. Grams explained that her campus offers “a very competitive admissions program” and out of 350 RN applicants, most of them have to be turned away because her facility can only sit about 120.

Since 1992 The College Network has been offering great alternatives for working adults to earn their advanced nursing degrees online. We allow nurses to get started immediately with general education and elective courses. Nursing programs offered vary by state but include: LPN to RN (associate degree), LPN to BS in Nursing, RN to BS in Nursing, RN to MS in Nursing, and BSN to MS in Nursing.

If you or someone you know could benefit from an advanced nursing degree and have been considering alternatives, I would strongly encourage you to visit www.collegenetwork.com or contact Reggie Theodore, Atlanta area Program Advisor for The College Network, by calling  646-271-9617.

Moving Forward in Your Nursing Career

Wednesday, March 27, 2013 by Abby Nieten

For us who nurse, our nursing is a thing which, unless we are making progress every year, every month, every week, take my word for it, we are going back.
Florence Nightingale

Well known as the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale advocated for continued advances in healthcare and nursing throughout her life. And although she died over a century ago, her famous words about forward movement in the nursing field still ring true. In order to keep up with the ever-changing healthcare industry, nurses must continue to grow in their profession through the pursuit of advanced education.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Initiative on the Future of Nursing highlights eight recommendations for nurses, and three of those recommendations push nurses to attain higher levels of education. The following educational recommendations aim to prepare nurses for improved patient care and continued advancements in the nursing field:

  • Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020.
  • Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020.
  • Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning.

If you're ready to improve the future of nursing by moving forward in your career, The College Network can help you take the next step. We offer the following online associate's, bachelor's and master's nursing degree programs:

  • LPN/LVN to RN (associate's degree)
  • Paramedic to RN (associate's degree)
  • LPN to BS in Nursing
  • RN to BS in Nursing
  • RN to MS in Nursing
  • MS in Nursing

Make Florence Nightingale proud, and decide to advance your nursing education this week, month and year! For more information about the online nursing degree programs available through The College Network, visit our nursing degrees page.

Best of Both Worlds

Monday, January 2, 2012 by Lawrence Bowlin

A BIG GULP, candy bar, snack potato chips and some lottery tickets.  What does this sound like to you?  They are things you get at a convenience store.  From national chains to the local "Mom and Pop" quick stop, they're everywhere.  We pay a higher price for things in these stores because of one major factor.  No; not because you can put unlimited Cherry flavor shots into your huge 74 ounce soda cup.  We do it for the convenience!  A quick zip in and zip out, everything we need compacted into a space no larger than my wife's closet!

From 30 minute oil changes to drive up restaurants, we have become a nation of convenience addicts.  I am guilty as charged! But convenience isn't always a bad thing.  In some cases it can be the difference between having and not having.

The College Network, with our partnerships and associations with some of the top universities and colleges in the nation, has designed a way for you to obtain your Associate of Science in Nursing degree, BS in Nursing degree, MS in Nursing degree, Project Management certificate, Lean Six Sigma certification, or Paralegal certificate through a combination of distance learning and comprehensive learning modules.  LPN to RN degree programs that allow you to work from any high-speed Internet connection, anytime, 24/7.  This will allow  you to learn and earn your degree in the most convenient way possible.   Our goal is to make education fit into your life.

Convenience can be a good thing.  Convenience joined with degrees from top universities is a very good thing.  Better job security, higher pay, better quality of life, satisfaction of accomplishment all in a convenient online program.  Want to know more?  It's simple and convenient; just call me 1-800-307-1006 ext 2649.

What more could you ask for?  Maybe a SUPER GULP?

I hope to hear from you!

You don't have to put your life on hold

Tuesday, October 26, 2010 by Lindsay Schmitt
Statistics show that when the economy takes a turn for the worst, interest in graduate school increases.  According to an article in the Chicago Sun-Times, "Graduate schools locally and nationally are posting record numbers of applicants and enrollments."

Good news - with The College Network, you don't have to put your life on hold to earn a degree.

According to the article mentioned above, "Health sciences saw the biggest growth -- nearly 15 percent -- nationally in applications from 2008 to 2009. Interest in nursing primarily fueled this growth."

Nursing is one field that has not been affected by the recession. There is actually a shortage of nurses in the United States, and many people are going back to school to fill this need. The College Network is committed to helping with the nursing shortage by offering convenient nursing degrees through its partner universities.

The College Network partners with good nursing schools from reputable universities to offer nursing degrees with no waiting list. It is possible to complete RN to MSN bridge programs as well as MS in Nursing Education and MS in Nursing Management degrees without quitting the job you have or interrupting your search for a new position.

Beyond the Numbers

Thursday, October 14, 2010 by Stefanie Kinsey

PurposeBusiness intelligence is, by its very nature, dynamic; ever changing; and fast paced. A hybrid between teaching and forensics - my job provides the truth in a world of chaos and urgency. The data drives falsehood and lies from business decisions and provides the team the guidance needed to accomplish purpose.  Business Intelligence allows managers to see things more clearly.  In fact, the goal of Business Intelligence is to illustrate the picture so clearly that the picture is more than what it was originally.

The College Network is more than just a resource to online degrees from leading universities.  Just as the picture to the left is more than a couple enjoy a view of a lake.  We are a team of adults like you who want more.  We believe there is more to education than just books.  We believe eduction should be inspired by life and integrated into our lives, whatever the circumstances!  We strive and push one another to:

  • Make a difference
  • Challenge the routine
  • Have an impact

I encourage you to view the College Network Reviews.  You will find there are lots of educational opportunities.  Some like Associate Degree in Nursing ADN, Online Paramedic to RN Program, accelerated RN to BSN, MS in Nursing Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and PMP Preparation course, but if you look through the surface, I hope you will see more than educational opportunities.

Some would say the purpose of Business Intelligence is to provide information as to what has been accomplished and how we are doing; key performance indicators.  Business Intelligence is so much more.  The goal is to use the data and information to go beyond the numbers.  Business Intelligence is clearly painting the picture so the future can be predicted.  The College Network is more than an educational services company.  The College Network is your team and support to finding a new life through education.

How Has Health Care Changed Already?

Monday, September 27, 2010 by College Network
Since the Affordable Care Act was passed in March of this year there have already been several changes that have taken place. Last week I talked about changes that went into effect on September 23. Here is the list of changes that had already been made since the law was passed.

January 1, 2010: Providing Small Business Health Insurance Tax Credits. Up to 4 million small businesses are eligible for tax credits to help them provide insurance benefits to their workers. The first phase of this provision provides a credit worth up to 35% of the employer’s contribution to the employees’ health insurance. Small non-profit organizations may receive up to a 25% credit.

April 1, 2010: Allowing States to Cover More People on Medicaid. States will be able to receive federal matching funds for covering some additional low-income individuals and families under Medicaid for whom federal funds were not previously available. This will make it easier for states that choose to do so to cover more of their residents.

June, 2010: Relief for Four Million Seniors Who Hit the Medicare Prescription Drug "Donut Hole". An estimated 4 million seniors will reach the gap in Medicare prescription drug coverage known as the “donut hole” this year. Each senior will receive a $250 rebate.

Effective Now: Cracking Down on Health Care Fraud. Current efforts to fight fraud have returned more than $2.5 billion to the Medicare Trust Fund in FY 2009 alone. The new law invests new resources and requires new screening procedures for health care providers to boost these efforts and reduce fraud and waste in Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP.

June 1, 2010: Expanding Coverage for Early Retirees. Too often, Americans who retire without employer-sponsored insurance and before they are eligible for Medicare see their life savings disappear because of high rates in the individual market. To preserve employer coverage for early retirees until more affordable coverage is available through the new Exchanges by 2014, the new law creates a $5 billion program to provide needed financial help for employment-based plans to continue to provide valuable coverage to people who retire between the ages of 55 and 65, as well as their spouses and dependents. For more information on the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, visit www.ERRP.gov

July 1, 2010: Providing Access to Insurance for Uninsured Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions. A Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan will provide new coverage options to individuals who have been uninsured for at least six months because of a pre-existing condition. States have the option of running this new program in their state. If a state chooses not to do so, a plan will be established by the Department of Health and Human Services in that state. This program serves as a bridge to 2014, when all discrimination against pre-existing conditions will be prohibited. Learn more about the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan.

July 1, 2010: Putting Information Online. The law provides for an easy-to-use website where consumers can compare health insurance coverage options and pick the coverage that works for them.

Student with Two Certifications Earns Third in Project Management

Wednesday, September 22, 2010 by College Network

Shawn Camp knows a thing or two about becoming certified in his field. He already has his Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and his Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) certificates. “I have a bachelor’s in computer information,” Shawn said. “I wanted to earn my Certificate in Project Management because that certification places you in the middle of everything that a corporation wants in an employee.”

Because he’s originally from Boston, Mass., Shawn found the opportunity to earn his Project Management Certificate from Boston University Corporate Education Center very enticing. The fact that he could earn the certificate completely online also caught his interest. “The nearest school to me that offers this program is four hours away. Online education was just a much better option for me in this case,” Shawn said.

With all the education that Shawn continues to accumulate, he hopes to one day be a network administrator or to be able to run his own computer firm. “I’m really excited to just get this experience and move on from there. I want to see where it takes me,” he said. “This certificate shows your willingness to learn, your ability to take on more responsibilities, adds more weight to your resume and, in some cases, even gets your foot in the door.”

Coming from a technology background, Shawn knows the importance of keeping up with trends in today’s highly technical world. “Technology changes every six months,” Shawn said. “If you can keep up with everything that’s changing in today’s world, you’ll be all the more valuable to employers.”

Have you been considering going back to school, whether it be for a certificate or a degree? Let The College Network help you meet your goals! The College Network works to offer online degrees from leading universities. Our distance nursing degrees include MS in Nursing Management, LVN to BSN programs, Associate Degree in Nursing online, Online Paramedic to RN program, Bachelor of Nursing programs, RN to MSN Bridge Programs and more. Our certificate programs include: project management and PMP preparation courses, paralegal, lean six sigma green belt, hospitality, human resources and more.

Check the accreditation before choosing an online program

Monday, September 13, 2010 by The College Network Web Team
After you have successfully completed the courses needed to become an LPN or LVN, you may want to look into an RN nursing degree. The benefit to pursuing and completing an RN program is that you will have the ability to pursue additional courses that can earn you a BS or master of science (MS) degree as well as a higher salary.  The College Network can help you achieve those goals online.

Potential students can choose to pursue an RN through online programs, campus-based programs, or a combination of both. You should know that most traditional campus-based programs have waiting lists around 2 years. Nursing education with no waiting list is in high demand. This has led to a significant increase in the number of students who opt to use online programs to obtain their RN nursing degrees.

Before you choose an online program, you will want to be sure that the online program that you apply for is regionally accredited. While national accreditation may sound better, its credits not widely accepted for transfer. The College Network offers programs that can be completed at NLNAC accredited schools.

In addition to the many different types of accreditation programs, there are also many educational path options. These include the Associate Degrees Nurse program and the Bachelor of Science Nurse program.

If you are looking to obtain a job as an RN in the health care industry, getting an accreditation which is not widely accepted could be detrimental to your career. A degree that is NLNAC accredited will make you more competitive in a job market where high skills and many opportunities for higher pay are readily available for those who are prepared.

Advancing from an LPN, RN or BSN Degree

Wednesday, September 8, 2010 by The College Network Web Team
Whether a nurse holds an LPN, RN or BSN, advancement is possible in the nursing field. In today's tough economy, many people are losing their jobs. One field has weathered the economic storm and continues to thrive: the nursing field. Hospitals, convalescent homes, doctors' offices and home health agencies continue to need and seek nurses every day.

LPNs may take advantage of the many jobs available by advancing to an RN degree. On average, many LPNs earn about $35,000 per year, but an RN averages a salary of about $55,000 per year. Nurses holding a BSN degree earn around $65,000 per year. Those holding an MS degree in nursing often make more.

Aside from the monetary gain available with career advancement, there are also many more diverse choices of career opportunities with each higher degree earned. With higher education levels come management opportunities. Nurses acquiring an MS degree often seek teaching opportunities at colleges and universities. Many nursing instructors enjoy their position and report that the several years spent in school was worth every minute for the rewards they receive from an enjoyable career.

Affordable nursing classes are becoming more plentiful each semester for those holding an LPN, RN or BSN. Nurses will easily be able to complete a higher degree while continuing their current job, thanks to the growth of online classes. Nurses holding an LPN, RN or BSN will enjoy the convenience of completing classes in the comfort of home through the internet. Life schedules and prior commitments may remain unchanged with online learning.

Affordable nursing courses from trusted schools are available through The College Network. Nurses interested in bettering their career should check out The College Network's nursing programs online.

Enrolled Nurses Course

Saturday, September 4, 2010 by The College Network Web Team
Keeping in mind the fast pace of today’s world, working professionals are finding it difficult to balance their work requirements, their professional aspirations and their personal lives. Options are desperately being explored, which would provide opportunities for educational and career enhancement, at the same time taking into account the fact that people have little or no time to devote themselves in order to achieve the above mentioned purposes.

This is where organizations like The College Network, which is an eLearning provider, come into play. The College Network partners with leading universities to provide online college degrees and certificate courses, which help working professionals balance their lives while pursuing their education.

One of the more popular things being offered are the enrolled nurses courses, which provides an opportunity for nursing professionals to be trained and increases their value in the market for furthering of their professional aspirations. Some of the courses being offered include Associate degree programs like LPN/LVN to RN and Paramedic to RN. Bachelors degree programs like the LPN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the RN to BS in Nursing program are also offered. And, last but definitely not least, the Masters Degree programs like the RN to MS in nursing programs and MS in Nursing programs.

The programs are designed keeping in mind the busy schedule of working nurses. Essentially, the programs takes less time to complete than traditional programs, learning modules are developed to take into account the working hours of the professionals, and they can be completed at the convenience of the individual.

Day Three of Training Week: E-Issues and Regis University

Wednesday, August 25, 2010 by Rebecca Lewis
We are already at Wednesday of Training Week!  It is amazing how fast the week flies.  We spent the morning talking about all things "e-related".  The College Network has a host electronic programs and Internet and computer-based resources to be used by either our Program Advisors (PA) or customers.  We spent a lot of time exploring the wonderful support technologies available.

The afternoon sessions focused on Regis University.  A wonderful leader in online nursing education, Regis has three great programs for educating nurses.  Regis is also the one of our partner programs that has an MSN (Master of Science in Nursing).  A nurse can earn an  MS in Nursing Management or an MS in Nursing Education in as little as 18-24 months.  Another great feature of the Regis programs is that they have a "bridge" program.  If an RN knows they want to get both a BSN and an MSN, Regis has a program that will allow someone to earn both at the same time.

Our merry band of four trainees is doing really well.  They are absorbing all the information we give them.  They are eagerly learning about the great nursing schools we partner with and the online nursing programs that will best help their clients meet their educational goals.  Online degree programs can be very complicated and our newest PAs are doing a great job learning all the intricacies of each program.

Become A Nurse Educator With An MSN in Nursing Education

Thursday, July 1, 2010 by The College Network Web Team
As the duties of nurses at all levels become more complex and specialized, the need for skilled nurse educators continues to grow. If you’re an RN (with or without a BSN) or an experienced teacher with an interest in health care, becoming a nurse educator can lead to a challenging and rewarding career.

Earning an MS in Nursing Education allows you to combine clinical experience and academic coursework to train the nurses of tomorrow. With an MSN degree, you can teach student nurses in hospitals and clinics where they work and offer continuing education in the classroom to experienced nurses. Nurse educators also teach advanced courses in nursing specialties, such as pediatrics, oncology, and emergency care, instruct the public and assist with research.

Many graduate schools and university medical centers offer an MS in Nursing Education as a way to alleviate the continuing shortage of nurses and nursing faculty. Potential students have to wait as long as three years to get into good nursing schools which only worsens the problem.

Online nursing education programs help solve the shortage by letting nurses work around their busy schedules with a combination of online classes, on-campus courses and medical facility practicums. In addition, some courses can be “tested out” with a college equivalency exam using test preparation materials offered by The College Network, among others. Passing the exam allows the course credits to be transferred to the participating college.

For more information regarding online nursing education degrees, go online to The College Network.

The time to earn a nursing degree is now. In spite of job losses, the need for qualified healthcare professionals continues to rise. Sick individuals saturate local hospitals and hospices. Many patients must recover in their homes at the mercy of loving yet unqualified family members. For example, many schools now offer online courses. Hybrid courses also exist. The College Network partners with accredited universities and colleges for Nurses to offer nursing modules that help individuals prepare for the necessary testing. After the modules are completed, students may take the required exams. Credits received through The College Network courses are then transferred to the accredited universities or colleges for nursing. Furthermore, students do not have to wait for acceptance into nursing programs on waiting lists.

Because of College Network’s organizational design, students are enabled to participate in some of the best college programs available to the nursing career field.
